Conductive cellulose composites have received much attention as emerging materials due to their unique properties, such as biodegradability and flexibility. However, the achievable levels of conductivity of these cellulose composites are generally low due to the intrinsically nonconductive properties of cellulose. In this study, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were applied for preparation of a ...

Energy in Africa - Wikipedia

★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

Energy in Africa is a scarcer commodity than in the developed world – annual consumption is 518 KWh in Sub-Saharan Africa, the same amount of electricity used by an individual in an Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD – example is the U.S.) country in 25 days. More than 500 million people live without electricity.

Metalized Nanocellulose Composites as a Feasible Material ...

★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆

Herein, we study the feasibility of using nanocellulose (NC)-based composites with silver and platinum nanoparticles as additive materials to fabricate the support layer of thin film composite (TFC) membranes for water purification applications. In brief, the NC surface was chemically modified and then was decorated with silver and platinum nanoparticles, respectively, by chemical reduction.

The restoration of painting canvases is a complex problem that, because of the hierarchical nature of the canvas, requires intervention at several length scales. We propose an approach combining polyelectrolyte-treated silica nanoparticles (SNP) and cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) for canvas consolidation. The formulations, applied on model-degraded canvases, gave a total weight increase of <5 wt %.
